Meet Grace . . .
Started Teaching at BYCK: 2007
I started practicing Bikram Yoga in 1998, under the loving guidance of Mary Jarvis, renowned Senior Bikram Teacher and Founder of Global Yoga in San Francisco. After nearly 20 years as a healthcare executive, I left the traditional corporate healthcare world, and became a certified Bikram Yoga teacher in 2003.
Practicing the Bikram Yoga series is one of the best things I've done for myself. I was an avocational dancer, but otherwise, not athletically inclined. The Bikram series replicated for me all that I loved about dance: the absolute mindful movement of my body in a deliberate choreographed manner. But it gave me an opportunity to do this with a quiet mind … not outwardly joyful like dance, but inwardly calming like meditation.
This has been and continues to be the most incredible journey, both physically as well as psychologically. It has given me the opportunity to explore what I thought were my limits, and to my surprise move well beyond those limits. My life just keeps getting better, 90 minutes at a time ... class-by-class, breath-by-breath, moment-by-moment.
I love teaching the Bikram Yoga series because I love practicing the series. I want to expose as many people to this series as I can so that they too can experience the benefits of this magnificent series!! My students often tell me that I’m great at motivating them. In fact, with all their hard work and dedication, it is they who motivate me, and for that I am so very grateful.
